RENEWABLE energy consultancy PMSS has opened a new office in Caerphilly. PMSS is working for Eclipse Energy on the Gwynt yr Hafen project for Associated British Ports to study wind energy generation potential in five South Wales ports.

The company is also involved with the development and construction of a number of other onshore wind energy projects including Forestry Commission sites across Wales.

PMSS is also working for npower renewables on the construction of the Rhyl Flats offshore wind farm and is central to the development of a number of prototype wave and tidal energy projects in Welsh waters.

Rob Waddington, PMSS’s director in Wales, said, “We have been a leading independent renewable energy consultant in Wales, the UK and Europe for more than 12 years, and the surge in demand for expertise in the sector is allowing PMSS to recruit a further 20 staff.”

At the centre of PMSS’s expanded services is Chris Usher, who has joined as director of civil and structural engineering, to establish a sustainable engineering consultancy division, as well as to reinforce the business’s existing expertise.

Mr Usher said, “As recent chairman of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) in Wales I spent a year bringing sustainable issues to the attention of construction professionals, and am active internationally on the Institution’s Sustainable Construction Panel.

“I am immensely excited by the prospect of merging my 21 years of consultancy experience with PMSS’s renewable energy expertise to further enhance a unique and valuable consultancy service.”

The company is engaged in the majority of offshore wind projects throughout Europe, a number of onshore wind projects in development and construction roles, wave and tidal demonstrator projects as well as a number of biomass projects.
